National Childhood Hunger Day

In October 1995, the American Culinary Federation Chef & Child Foundation, Inc. reached out across America with its first Childhood Hunger Day. This foundation of professional chefs and cooks is the most extensive professional chefs organization in North America, serving 14,000 members and 170 chapters. It is the heart of National Childhood Hunger Day. Today, October 16, National Childhood Hunger Day focuses on the need for education about childhood hunger. Since the campaign launched in 1995, hundreds of chefs across the nation have participated in events within their local communities to feed hungry children and promote awareness of proper nutrition.

The Blocking Hunger Foundation stands behind the ACF and all that they do to end childhood hunger. Our foundation focuses on addressing childhood hunger in schools to ensure every child has the opportunity to grow into a thriving adult. When Travis Frederick established Blocking Hunger in 2017, he wanted to lower hunger statistics in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. He saw a community that needed change; Dallas County is the sixth hungriest county in the nation.

“For a child to go to school hungry and not have an opportunity to be at his full potential or learn, how are our kids going to start and become full adults if they can’t even have food? So, to me, it makes a lot of sense to focus our efforts on the kids and making sure they can get full meals.” - Travis Frederick, former Dallas Cowboys offensive lineman.

The Blocking Hunger Foundation is working to reduce the number of hungry children by distributing meals to those in need through our Travis’ Pantries and Nourish2Flourish programs. Through these programs, Blocking Hunger has impacted four schools and over 4,000 students in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. All of the meals and support the foundation has provided would not be possible without your support.

Today, October 16, National Childhood Hunger Day, we are setting a goal to raise $1,000 in 24 hours. Let’s lower the startling hunger statistics together. Your donation of $50 can feed a child for a month! You also can sponsor a child and make your $50 donation a monthly recurring gift, which will provide one child meals for the entire year. Many children don’t know where they will get their next meal. Let’s work together to end that worry and help each child reach their full potential.
